MSCHF’s Big Red Boot has been dominating the internet over the past few weeks.
Sale only started yesterday, February 16th at 11AM, where the boot was priced for $350. These boots sold out in seconds!
I must say, for an item worn by multiple celebrities and obviously with limited stock, the price seems reasonable.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we’ll see them all over Vinted at 3x the original price. I’m predicting resell value will be very high.
Who wore them?
Wisdom Kaye posted a series of images on Instagram rocking these MSCHF boots. He styles them in different outfits with the caption “I LOVE these wtf”.
Coi Leray also followed the trend in an all-black form-fitting outfit, making the colour and volume of the boots stand out even more. She has such a small frame which really accentuates how huge these boots are! I love how she styled them. I also love how she posed at the Brooklyn Nets game on the baseball court at the Barclays.
Super model Sarah Snyder was seen on the street with them, and later posted studio pictures wearing these boots. She paired them with a summery denim shorts and white sports bra look. To match the boots, she dyed the tips of her blonde hair red. Well done!
Last but definitely not least, we saw Lil Wayne stepping out wearing the cartoon-like boots. His stylist Marisa The Flores styled it with an equally oversized shirt, comme des garçons shorts and Yves Saint Laurent sunnies. Very trendy!
Verdict
These boots became very popular because they’re different, and they were worn by different famous celebrities.
The trend of out-of-this-world fashion; items you would see in a digital world such as the MetaVerse, cartoons, or virtual reality, is becoming more and more popular.
Fashion always follows trends happening in the world, and digitalisation, more specifically virtual reality, has been changing our lives recently and will continue to do so more and more in the future. Fashion brands are already playing into this trend and creating items that seem to be made in a digital world.
Nonetheless, I expect that these MSCHF boots are going viral today but will disappear in the future. Perhaps there will be new innovative styles by the Brooklyn Brand which has now launched its name into the fashion world, but the red boot specifically is, in my opinion, a hype rather than a trend.
I bet Kanye’s smiling now that he sees that the trend he initially was criticised for, wearing the obnoxiously large black Balenciaga boots, has eventually caught up the mainstream fashion sphere. Funny how things work out!
