If you’re just like me (and my boyfriend) and start planning Valentine’s day very last-minute, you came to the right place.
Here are some last minute valentine’s date ideas that will ensure quality time with your significant other, yourself, or your loved ones.
1. Prepare a Valentine’s Breakfast
This Valentine’s, show that special person you love them so much by serving them heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast!
Head to the store the night before, pick up a heart-shaped cookie form or pancake form (you can find these everywhere this season), your favourite pancake mix, and strawberries.
Since Valentine’s day is on a Tuesday this year, this one might require some extra effort to wake up early so your loved one(s) can enjoy this before heading to work/school!
Don’t despair; the effort will be very much appreciated ;-).
2. Go ice-skating
What’s more romantic during this cold Amsterdam winter weather than ice skating with your S/O in open air?
Though the ice skating rink at the Rembrandtplein is already closed for this year, you can go to the Jaap Eden ice rink.
Couples who fall on ice together, stay together!
3. Go out for a Valentine’s dinner menu
Lots of restaurants are offering a multiple-course Valentine’s day menu for this special day.
The one I recommend if you’re willing to go just outside of Amsterdam, is Villa Westend. This restaurant is located nearby Haarlem and has its own private beach with gorgeous nature views, as you can see in the picture.
The food is outstanding, you will surely enjoy a fine dining experience, for a very affordable price!
Bonus: you might be lucky to enjoy a romantic sunset view over the water. Who said Amsterdam doesn’t have a sunset beach?!
4. Couch date (with card games)
Are you really not in the mood for a fancy shmancy Valentine’s date? I feel you.
If you’ve just had an exhausting work Tuesday, spend the night in the couch with a glass of wine (or 3), order in some pizza, and grab some snacks.
To add some more romance, get your hands on a couples’ card game and get to know each other deeper. You can also do this with friends!
5. At home dinner date
If home-cooked food is your love language, Valentine’s day consists of simply being together in the kitchen and preparing a romantic meal while holding a glass of wine.
Put on a chilled R&B playlist, or anything that gets you in a relaxed, romantic mood, and enjoy each other’s company while spending quality time in the comfort of your own home.
Romanticising your life really doesn’t take a lot; it’s up to you to make something special of the little things.
Valentine’s day, in the end, isn’t about spending a lot of money on fancy gifts or fancy dates, but it’s about intentionally spending time with your loved one(s) and making each other feel special and appreciated.
Something as simple as writing a card or a love letter can make your special person feel extra special. What’s most important is that you put thought into it.
That being said, I wish all of you a very loving and warm Valentine’s day!
