You can’t miss these!
As the weather gets colder, drinks get hotter, and our homes get cozier, our wardrobe also undergoes quite some changes during the fall season. Autumn is by far my favourite season with regards to fashion; it’s finally time to bring out my fancy boots, coats and sweaters. Everything about this season screams “aesthetic”, so here are some brand new fall trends you don’t want to miss out on.
- Heeled loafers
Heeled loafers or “moccasins” might just be my favorite new trend this fall. They are a modern, feminine twist to the traditional loafer shoe and I’m here for it!
They can be styled with different outfits. These shoes would look great with a LBD (little black dress), tights and a long wool coat. Similarly, you can wear them with a suit or paired with leather leggings and an oversized sweater. What I love is that you can get creative with styling this unique shoe.
When choosing the right pair of heeled loafers, I recommend choosing ones that have a platform. This will make it more comfortable to wear all day; after all, this shoe works great in workplaces or any (formal) occasions. But you can still wear it casual, like Tessa Thompson effortlessly walking her dog in those high platforms.
2. Ties
Ties were all over the runway over the past years. Brands like Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton have been heavily promoting the accessory. As we know, what’s seen on the runway will be worn on the streets usually two seasons later. Now it’s time to bring the ideas of the designers to reality!
Miu Miu’s fashion show in Paris this year included different outfits accessorized with a tie. They showed us you can be creative with this accessory and wear it almost like a scarf instead of the traditional way of tying a tie. It’s a super versatile and fun accessory and we love it!
Bonus: you can borrow (read: steal) one from your boyfriend, dad, or brother.
3. Oversized blazers
The oversized blazer is an absolute fashion staple this autumn season. There’s only one simple rule for this item: the bigger, the better.
Neutral colours such as grey, beige or black are your best choice. This season’s fashion trends are based on quiet fashion, meaning that the colours and fabrics are more on the neutral, simple side rather than in-your-face bold prints, colours and materials. We stan a simple, sophisticated look!
Furthermore, oversized blazers are such a versatile piece. It can be worn with virtually any outfit. You can style it like Hailey did with jeans, a simple top and heels. It also works great over dresses, and can easily be dressed up or down for different occasions.
Finish off the look with a pair of dark, square sunglasses like Hailey did to complete the “boss vibe” look!
4. Knee-high boots
Knee high boots are trending this fall. I’m obsessed with the brown leather ones, such as the ones Olivia Culpo is wearing while she was Christmas tree shopping in Los Angeles. Brown is the ultimate color to wear during the fall. The high heel makes it look very elegant and sleek.
This fall, the trend is to wear a wider boot that reaches right below the knees. Previous years, we saw skin-tight over the knee boots, usually in suède materials. Even though those are still really cute, the trends are changing a bit now, and leaning towards leather materials rather than suède. Choose for a snakeskin leather boot with pointy toes and a wider fit around the calves. These boots look amazing underneath any type of dress, such as a sweater dress or a blazer dress, but you can also wear them over leggings or skinny jeans.
5. Classic suits
Every woman should own at least one suit in her wardrobe. Especially this fall season.
Suits can be worn with high heels for an event, or dressed down with sneakers to make it more casual. You can also play with the makeup, accessories and hairstyle to change up the look.
Women wearing suits immediately give off a powerful aura; a suit always looks classy and sophisticated, no matter the occasion.
I love Tina Kunakey’s look at MFW, wearing a three-piece suit as a twist on the traditional two-piece suit mostly worn by women. She’s wearing a waistcoat as a top underneath her blazer, making the look sexy and feminine.
6. Leather trenchcoats
This beautiful burgundy leather trenchcoat worn by Zendaya in Paris is actually part of her own collection in collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger.
This exact coat has been worn by different celebrities such as Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner. Unfortunately the collection is no longer for sale, but no panic: you can still scout the item on specific websites or online thrift shops.
Leather trenchcoats in black, brown and burgundy are really popular right now and are an effortless way to make a simple outfit look luxurious and put together. They are the perfect fall fashion item.
7. Oversized sweaters
This iconic look worn by Rihanna concludes our fall fashion trends. Oversized sweaters are an autumn dream; they’re cozy, warm, comfortable and if styled correctly they’re extremely fashionable. You can even wear them as a sweater dress, paired with tights and knee-high boots.
Rihanna paired her extravagant oversized sweater with brown suède flared pants, high heels and a Louis Vuitton miniature monogram top handle bag.
The luscious long hair, natural brown make-up and silver jewellery complete the look, adding an element of elegance and femininity. The queen of fashion has inspired us once again!
When looking for oversized sweaters, I recommend shopping at the men’s section. Sweaters for men always have the perfect oversized boyfriend fit, and are often high quality. Depending on how oversized you want the item to be, you can size up 1, 2 to 3 sizes.
